Lyrics
Road to Emmaus
We were on our way to Emmaus,
With a cloud of sorrow hanging low.
We had hoped that He would be,
The Messiah and the King,
But then He was dead and gone,
And it was hard to carry on,
On the road to Emmaus.
A stranger joined us along the way,
And He didn’t have too much to say,
But when He saw we were sad
He shared wisdom from the past.
And a light shown from above,
As we wondered who He was,
On the road to Emmaus.
(Chorus)
We didn’t know,
That we were walkin’ and talkin’ with Jesus
Our tears overflowed,
While we wept Jesus stood right by our side.
On the road to Emmaus.
Finally we turned in for the night
And Jesus joined us for a bite.
At the table grace was said
He asked God to bless the bread,
And as He prayed He raised His hands
Then we saw more than a man,
On the road to Emmaus.
(Chorus)
We jumped to our feet
We couldn’t believe that Jesus was alive
We cried out for Joy
As we shouted the news into the night
On the road to Emmaus
It happened on the road to Emmaus
There we found Jesus, walking down that road
