Against the Flow

By Rich DuBose

From a distance I watch social media’s rowdy rumble and flash-bang vitriol; the adamant statements, judging, and foul exchanges; of people throwing four letter words around like missiles; words that scar and offend—like handfuls of human excrement smeared on someone’s front door. Then I look away and ponder the words:

“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what's in your heart” (Luke 6:45, NLT).

Today, I'm focused on the treasures that inspire, heal and mend; that ultimately shine forth in humble acts of service and humane living; the very treasures that many online denigrate and ridicule. By God's grace I'll be swimming up-stream, against the flow.
